“Hey there cuties.”

My gaze turned to the sound of the voice, and so did Carl. Our eyes both landed on four soldiers, who had grins and smirks on their lips. I frowned at them, wondering what they could possibly want.

“What do you want?” Carl wasted no time in asking firmly.

They all looked at each other and one of them walked up to me. He held a cup in his hand and I could smell the alcohol coming from it.

“I’ve never seen such a pretty face in our ranks before. All the other girls are like plain Janes. Are you both new here?”

I did not know what to say, and as I opened my mouth to speak, Carl placed a hand on my shoulder and spoke instead.

“We are new, and what is it to you?”

“I like you, and I wanna get to know you better. Why don’t you join me and the nosy over there for some drinks? The meat tastes really nice, maybe you could taste our meat afterwards.”
