I went downstairs and found Mumma and Papa in the living room. I said hello to them, but Mumma gave me a small, sympathetic smile. It must have made her sad to know how her son treated a woman. No mother would want to hear those things.
To take my mind off of it, I started making breakfast, and we all ate quietly. Mumma and Papa tried to make things happier by bickering in an adorable way, but I couldn't stop thinking about whether Cassian would come looking for me. But I knew I shouldn't expect too much, because high expectations often lead to big disappointments.
