Unexpected Things

A sudden knock on the door catches Haneul’s attention. He places his wineglass on the table, setting it aside before walking to the door and opening it up. 

“Yes?” he asks the person outside. He frowns as no one answers. “Who is it?” he repeated himself, still no answer.

He sighs and opens the door. Haneul burst into tears at seeing his father standing in front of him. His father pulls him into a warm hug and pats his back gently. 

“What happened, my son?” he whispers softly, his voice barely above a whisper.

Haneul looks at him through the eye patch and lets out a quiet sob. He wraps his arms around his father and cries. 

“Dad, I love her,” he says quietly.

It was silent for a moment before Haneul felt his dad’s embrace tighten. 

“Relax, my son, you are a young man now.”
