I gazed at the doctor, utterly stunned.

He seems to think he's delivering the greatest news ever. An icy grip tightens around my heart as I realize how terribly timed this is, and I can only guess what Alex's reaction will be. Hastily, I stood up and reach for the doctor's hand.

"Could you please keep it a secret? I want to surprise my mate," I said, trembling all over. He nodded in understanding, recognizing that a woman in love would want to be the first to share with her mate the news of becoming parents. He pressed an envelope into my hand.

"Deliver this to the doctor in your pack. He'll know how to proceed."

I leave the hospital feeling like a zombie. Under different circumstances, this could have been one of the best things to happen to me. Now, my future depends on Alex's decision, whether he'll reject me to protect his image or pressure me into terminating the pregnancy for his convenience.
