Upon arriving in Paris, she was greeted at the airport by Max's manager, who handed her an envelope full of money. He regretfully informed her that Max wouldn't be able to meet her as he had a crucial meeting with his lawyer to finalize a new contract. Max was amidst negotiations with a European record label, and the details needed immediate attention. The manager suggested that Maya use the time to explore Paris instead.

Feeling a bit lost since she didn't know anyone there, Maya expressed her concern. The manager reassured her, "Not a problem! Ian is the lead singer of a band called 'Crown of Thorns.' They're playing tonight at a club downtown. You can come along with me and listen to their set. Afterwards, we'll go back to my place and hang out until Max gets home."

Maya agreed to the plan, thinking it would be a good distraction while waiting for Max's return. Plus, the idea sounded like a lot of fun.
