John shook his head. "Don't be sorry," he said. "I'm actually glad you did. Your mom was one of the best people I've ever known. She raised you the way she wanted to, and I know she was proud of you. I'm glad you took the time to come and visit me. I know it meant a lot to her."

She nodded. "I'm still trying to process it, but I'm sure I'll get over it eventually," she said. "My life has changed a lot in the last few months, and there have been quite a few sad moments. This is just another one of them, I suppose. It hurts, but I know I can get through it."

"I know you can," John said. "I'm sorry for bringing it up if it made you upset. I just wanted you to know why you haven't seen me around as much lately. I've been spending some time with your mother, helping her out with whatever she needs. You should feel lucky that you had such a wonderful role model growing up.&
