In the end, I agreed to Carl's request. One reason was that this was the least I could do after all the help he had given me.
I was startled when Carl touched my shoulder. "Why are you so jumpy?" I exclaimed.
He laughed. "Relax, Dianna. Come on. They won't eat you," he reassured me.
"It's just that I'm meeting your parents for the first time," I said.
"And?" he asked. "Don't worry, they are nice," he said with a smile.
From where I was sitting, he helped me stand up. In less than a second, I felt his tight embrace.
"Let go of me. You're creasing my dress again," I accused him.
But instead of releasing me, he just laughed and held me even tighter. I looked at Amari, who was also clinging to my waist.
