Chapter 2

Davina pov

No, that had to be a joke. No, this couldn't happen to me, not to me.

A smile played on his lips, which was crazy. We were damn enemies and certainly not mates.

He said softly and quietly, "Finally." I continued to feel the tingling sensation as his hand held my chin. Unfortunately, I liked the feeling, but I managed to keep my stone mask.

"I've finally found you." To make matters worse, he stroked my chin with his thumb. This situation was completely absurd, but Amun was happy.

He looked into my eyes for a long time and I wanted to look away, but it was impossible. I was mesmerized by those golden eyes.

Suddenly Amun let go of me and stood up again. Only now was I able to look away from him again? My eyes fell on the idiot next to him. Taran looked completely shocked as if he had seen a ghost. Fainting may be imminent.

Amun turned to him and said, "Let the pack know that I have found my Luna."

Was he serious?!

I would rather commit suicide than give in to this madness. The man was devastated when he thought that I would play his wife.

Still, I was smart enough to keep my mouth shut for the moment. I had to regain my strength to begin the fight.

Taran cleared his throat and replied, "Of course." Amun nodded and seemed satisfied.

Did he perhaps want to throw another party because his so-called Luna was a fire devil who would like to burn everything down?

Amun said, "However, we should wait until Davina has calmed down before celebrating." I couldn't hold it in and said through gritted teeth, "Stick your party up your ass. I'm not a lapdog and I serve your people." He skillfully ignored my words and Taran replied, "Yes, that would be very sensible. Don't worry, I'll explain that to the pack."

They wanted to tell everyone that I, of all people, was his mate, whom the moon goddess had chosen while intoxicated. Really?

"Very good." How calmly they talked about it. Then as if I were absent and not exactly next to them.

In a normal tone, but packaged as a command, Amun said, "Go ahead." In another wave of anger, I tried to ignite my fire. The only result was incomprehensible pain that shot through my entire body. I gritted my teeth tightly together so as not to make a sound.

"It'll be soon." Amun's voice boomed through the dungeon and I flinched slightly. This powerful aura surrounded him and this newfound information confused me, which made it difficult to maintain my facade. The man was incredibly intimidating, which was unsettling even me.

Taran was alive again, which is why he made his way to me. At least I got rid of those stupid chains.

When he arrived at my place, he started to loosen the iron shackles. My hands went first, which was an indescribable relief when the chains were released. My arms hurt like hell after this ordeal.

While he was busy fixing the chains around my feet, I said, "We'll probably have to postpone the killing thing." I was completely weak, but I managed to say the comment happily. He gave me a quick, annoyed look, but didn't reply.

"A hunter and element carrier, then, interesting choice of moon goddess." Amun sounded thoughtful and I wanted to spit in his face. That was one of the most disrespectful things you could do.

I didn't look at him and answered, "Believe me, I'd rather be dead too." I was serious and you could hear that if you listened closely.

Amun shot at me, which startled me. He lifted my chin and I automatically looked into his eyes. His face was very close to mine and Taran was just untying the last shackles on my ankle.

"You'll never say something like that again." Amun looked very serious and his voice sounded threatening. It was a real change, but I pulled myself together and wanted to remain brave. "If so? Will you kill me then, werewolf?" I said the word werewolf with as much disgust as I could muster. He sighed and let go of me.

Amun stood up again and I tried the same. Kneeling on the floor here wasn't very threatening, it was more submissive.

I wanted to stand up but immediately fell to the side, my legs no longer obeying me. Probably because I had been in that pose for so long.

Amun caught me immediately. Luckily I was wearing long sleeves so his skin didn't touch mine. I could gladly be spared this feeling when he touched me.

Amun helped me up and when I was standing I roughly pushed him away. Thanks to the action I almost lost my balance, but was just able to regain it. Still, my legs felt numb, as if they were no longer part of my body.

He sighed again and started walking, saying, "Come with me." Unfortunately, I had no choice, although it was nice that I was freed from this shithole.

Taran was behind me and gave me a little push to get me going. I was angry with him just for the fact that he brought me here, then he did this.

I turned around and wanted to attack him. Unfortunately, I was too weak, so no real attack followed. Taran had grabbed my wrists and was holding me tight. Of course, there was no lack of glaring on both sides.

Amun thundered, “Taran! Let her go!"

Zack had already let go of me. This happened very quickly and he looked past me apologetically. "She attacked me, I fought back and stopped her." He had a point, but I just looked at him with hatred.

Amun grabbed me by the upper arm and pulled me with him. "Enough, let's get you out of the dungeon now."

Amun at least slowly pulled me along, my legs wouldn't have been able to do anything else. I heard Taran muttering something behind us. He thought it was a shame that nothing came of the killing. For now, we would both continue to live.

One thing I had to say was that the king was a pleasant support, but I would never say that to his face. I hated being dependent on anyone and somehow I was currently.

To shake this thought, I focused on my surroundings. It was the classic dungeon. There were stone walls everywhere and the cold was almost tangible. Daylight was a foreign concept. The artificial light from the lamps provided the only brightness.

Every guard we passed looked at me in surprise or disgust. I gave them withering looks, so they mostly turned away. There were a few people stationed here who guarded this shithole well.

Finally, we came to a staircase. Thank you very much too, I could use that in my condition.

How was I supposed to do that?

I covered up my inner emotions and put my first foot on the step. I looked at the floor and watched my legs. Maybe it would work better if I kept an eye on her.

I stumbled on the third step and without Amun I would have fallen. He said, “Please let me carry you.” I briefly considered bitching, but actually, that would be stupid. I couldn't cope, and it wasn't an order. He said that in a normal tone.

"I hope you're not being snappy." The next moment he picked me up and I let him. Amun continued on his way and carried me easily in his arms.

I stubbornly looked straight ahead, just not looking into his eyes. Those perfect beautiful golden eyes.

No, wrong thoughts.

I couldn't think about a werewolf like that, not for a second.

Still, his smell was wonderful, which I tried to ignore. This scent was divine, I had never smelled anything like it.

I have no idea what was playing here. They probably wanted to find out something about my clan, but I would never play along.

Reaching the top, Amun said, “A huntress, then a future leader too. That's very interesting." He sounded very thoughtful and I looked ahead doggedly and tried to concentrate on the surroundings.

Everything on the ground floor was beautiful, it looked like a palace. Well, he was a king, and they usually lived in one. I only discovered one corridor, but it was very long. This house was probably huge.

I don't know if I would ever find out. Maybe it was all a trick and I was just taken to a torture chamber. It just sounded like pure nonsense, but my brain had served me with that idea.

I couldn't get another word out of my mouth. The man intimidated me and I couldn't do anything about it. Then there was this attraction, it drove me crazy.

Taran spoke up, "As I've gotten to know her so far, she's been thoroughly brainwashed." That's when a fuse blew in my head.

Brainwashing? What nonsense was he talking about?

I asked angrily, "Brainwashing?!"

I roughly pulled myself away from Amun's arms. As much as I liked being close to him, I missed it. It was a miracle that he even allowed this to happen. It shouldn't be a problem for him to stop me.

I pushed Amun away and tried to attack Taran. However, my so-called mate held me by the arms and I was pulled back. Taran raised an eyebrow and looked at me unimpressed.

Then my family came to mind. They were all dead and why?

I looked at Taran and yelled, “You’re telling me you’re not monsters!? You killed my family!" I tried to break away from Amun's grip but had no chance. However, I didn't give up and wanted to kick Taran with my feet, who dodged it. I also had no legroom.

I continued angrily, “You’re a monster, all of you are! You're attacking innocent people!" I was about to kill Taran, both of them. Mate or not, that wasn't my problem. I let out a scream of rage and continued to try to free myself from Amun.

Suddenly I heard a quiet, "I'm sorry" from the king. Then I felt a prick in my upper arm, which made me even angrier. I would soon pass out.

Did they always have these syringes on hand? That was worrying.

It was already getting dark and I stepped away.
