"You're a lot more likeable when you're quiet, kid," I said as I clumsily placed the child onto the bed in the spare room. Making some attempt to pull the covers over her.

I was never good with children, and much preferred them when they didn't talk back. I wondered if I was cut out to be a Father myself, but the beauty of having Elsie bear my heirs, was that she would raise them until they were at an age I could have an intelligent conversation with them. 

"Go to sleep," I grunted to the child as I left the room. She rolled over and appeared to have drifted off. Hopefully she wouldn't cause me any bother for the rest of the night, I had plans.
