Emma’s POV
He gazed at me with a piercing intensity, his eyes searching for any sign of deception. “Tell me the truth, Emma,” he urged, his voice low and gentle, yet firm. “I know you’re not okay. I can see it in your eyes.”
I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. I was relieved to be free from the packhouse, but the trauma of my experience lingered. Bennett’s persistence and genuine concern eventually won out, and I nodded, acknowledging my true state.
“I’m just… bruised, and shaken,” I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. “But I’ll be fine. Hailey helped me through it.”
Bennett’s expression softened, his eyes filled with compassion. He pulled me into a gentle embrace, holding me close. “We’ll get through this together,” he whispered. “You’re safe now.”
