I winced as the doctor tended to my wounds, but my mind was focused on gathering information. “Thanks for patching me up, Doc. How long have you been with the pack?”

The doctor, a kind-eyed woman named Sophia, smiled warmly. “Let’s see… I have been here for about 30 years now. I was brought in by the Alpha himself. He was looking for a medic with my particular… skills.”

My curiosity was piqued. “Skills? What kind of skills?”

Sophia’s expression turned cautious, her voice lowering. “Let’s just say I have experience with certain things… unusual injuries. The kind that requires a delicate touch.”

I sensed that there was more to Sophia’s story, but I didn’t push the issue. Instead, I asked, “What about Emma? How long has she been here?”

Sophia’s eyes cloud over, her voice barely above a whisper. “Emma… poor thing. She has been here for years now. I have seen the way he looks at her… it is not like he looks at anyone else.
