Hours passed and I still did not go home. I was basically a housemate Sebastian didn’t plan for. We were both miserable, except he was worse. Whatever happened between him and Samantha had broken him.
“I know how hard you worked to get her…”
I recalled how foolish he had looked back then. Sometimes he made up excuses to be at my office just to get a chance to talk to her.
“Yeah, I acted like a weirdo—a creep.” He gulped his beer like it was water.
“Do you think there could be another chance? Did she give you a reason for the split?”
Sebastian nodded in response. He smiled, but it did not reach his eyes; they seemed sad.
“She did. There’s no second chance for us. She loves someone else.” He laughed, lifting his bottle in the air. “To love.”
I had no idea what to say to him. If Eliana ever left me for another, I don’t know what I would do. I would probably look worse than Sebastian.
