Chapter 54. Giving Her Doubts

“And where did you guys go and decide not to tag me along, huh? It's already nine in the evening, and I have a feeling that a lot of my time went to waste. You could have just texted me to update me on what was happening. It's not like this, where I am clueless and don't know when you will come back," Maxine impatiently yelled out as soon as Irish and I entered my unit.

I didn't pay attention to her and simply walked past without acknowledging her. However, what unfolded next caught me completely off guard. There was a powerful and forceful slap, landing exactly where I least expected it. I quickly turned around to witness Maxine slapping Irish on her right cheek. The unexpected turn of events left Irish looking visibly shocked, while Maxine had a triumphant smile on her face.

“What on earth was that for? Why did you do that?" I couldn't resist asking what prompted her unexpected behavior.

But instead of feeling regretful, Maxine just grinned at me. I did not
