Silence screams in an empty gallery where only we, the graduating students of the Iridian Halls of Wisdom and our teachers, have been allowed to remain. The windows have been shut, causing the enclave to be enshrouded in transient darkness while the sun still burns outside. The sound of footsteps echoes, making cadet knocks on the rigid floor.

“As you already know, your graduation is next month. Therefore, I cannot overemphasize the importance of this physical examination…” The chief instructor paces around, clad in her usual navy blue attire and heavy boots. Her hair is neatly packed in a ponytail, and her hands are folded behind her.

“You all have passed the academic tests. That’s impressive, but it is also important to remember that only those who pass this combat test will graduate next month and form the new generation of elites on the continent. They will be absorbed into the House of Assembly, tax parastatal
