Chapter 33. A Desperate Plan

The moment I left Xenois alone and went back to our shared bedroom while he went to his house study to handle whatever work crisis he had to deal with, I pulled out my phone with shaking hands.

There was only one person who might be able to help me, and calling her meant risking everything that I had – not just my marriage, but also my life.

Wolves and witches had been enemies for centuries. The old treaties were clear: any wolf caught making deals with witches or warlocks would be stripped of their pack status and exiled. And in some cases, killed.

But desperate times called for desperate measures, and I was running out of options.

I scrolled through my contacts until I found the number I’d kept hidden for years, listed under an fake name that wouldn’t raise suspicions if anyone ever looked through my phone.

Carol answered on the second ring, her voice sounding familiar despite the fact that years had passed since we’d last spok
