Chapter 13. Bound by Duty and Desire

Emily's Pov

I sit in a chair next to Benson and give him a nod when his eyes land on me. I notice a mix of curiosity and concern fleeting across the alpha king's face. I try to offer a reassuring smile, but I know it doesn't work.

My father and Uncle Eric informed us that they would explain the rules of the training. Then, they will return to the evaluation room. I watch them leave, leaving Benson and me alone in the observation room. As soon as we're alone in the room, my whole body warms up, and I feel euphoric with this rare moment between me and Benson.

"Are you okay?" Benson asks, and I'm conflicted about the response I should give. I want to say that I miss his touch. I thought about seeing him in the early hours of the morning. I want to say how he has dominated my thoughts and my heart in a way I don't want him to.
