Lilah walked up to the hospital bed but couldn’t help sneaking glances at Damien.

Her brother—he was basically a legend in the medical world, all brains and charm.

Thing was, even though his face looked like something off a magazine cover, they didn’t look alike at all.

She had been one of the school beauties back then too, but standing next to each other, it was like they weren’t even family.

“Get some rest.”

Damien finished his rounds and was ready to head out.

Before leaving, he glanced at her.

That look in his eyes—it was cold, way too cold. So cold it made Lilah feel he was nothing like the warm-hearted brother she used to remember.

Maybe he’d just been hurt too badly.

He looked at her for a second, then turned and left without saying goodbye.

But the moment he turned away, a flicker of pain passed through his deep brown eyes—barely noticeable if you weren’t paying attention.
