Chapter 37. Visions
Xerina’s POV
The darkness—heavy and cruel.
The world around me was aflame. The sky was a roiling mass of smoke and fire. Buildings crumbled, their skeletal frames collapsing into piles of smoldering rubble. I couldn’t breathe.
Screams pierced the air, and I looked around in panic, desperate and haunting. I stumbled through the chaos, with a gasp leaving my mouth as I stumbled back.
Panic clawed at my mind, threatening to overwhelm me. Everywhere I looked, there was devastation. People ran, their faces twisted in terror and pain, some engulfed in flames as they sought to escape from the inferno.
A deafening roar sounded as another building succumbed to the relentless fire, the walls disintegrating into a cascade of sparks and debris. I tripped over a fallen beam, hitting the ground hard. Pain lanced through my body, but I scrambled to my feet.
