Chapter 9

Chris’s POV

Vivid appeared preoccupied, her furrowed brow betraying how she felt. She kept her thoughts to herself for now, but I sensed that a good meal and a soothing bath later might encourage her to confide in me. I longed for her to open up and share with me. Above all, I wanted her to know she could always count on me.

She still perceives me as her bully. I need to find a way to break down that wall between us and get her on my side. I thought uniting against Zeke would do that, but there has yet to be progress.

My friends would only be a little help. They didn’t casually date either since we were all warriors, so I had no one I could turn to for advice.

Walking by Gary’s Tavern, an idea struck me. In our town, shifters could legally drink at 18. “Hey, let’s get some drinks for the weekend. You’ll be off, right?”

Vivian paused. “I hope so, but I’m not really sure. We haven’t really discussed that or pay.”

I growled. Go figure Zeke did
