I stepped out of the room with Julian at my side while the others stayed with Zane. Lilly was tending to Rose, and Aries had pulled Robin aside for a quiet discussion. Me? I just needed air. The walls felt too close, and every time my thoughts wandered to what we planned to attempt tomorrow, my heart stuttered like it already knew the risks.

“Are you sure you want to go through with this?” Julian asked once we were far enough away. His voice was light, but his eyes weren’t. “We could just scrap the whole plan, come up with something new. Something safer. Where no one gets hurt.” He added a tiny smile, like he hoped it would soften the weight of his words.
