Chapter 16
Mitchell removed her shoes from the door and slid her key inside the keyhole. She quietly turned the key, and a loud click came. She winced at how loud it sounded but pushed the door open nonetheless; she needed to get in as soon as possible. She couldn’t have anyone knowing she was just coming back. A loud creak followed the opening of the door, making her wince again. Since when did their doors creak?
She tiptoed inside and closed the door slowly, wincing at the creaking sound it made again. She’d have to do something about those creaks before they woke someone up. When she successfully closed the door, she used her key to lock it again. She heaved a silent sigh of relief when she managed to get the door closed without making any more sounds.
Turning around, she let out an involuntary scream at the sight of her brother staring at her with cold eyes. He was standing in the dark sitting room with a soldier-like stance, his white t-shirt standing out in the darkness.
