Chapter 19
The sound of feet shuffling filled the room as everybody scurried back to their respective cubicles. Mitchell watched Martha’s retreating figure, almost feeling pity for the woman. The keyword ‘almost.’ She looked at George and noticed he still had his eyes trained on the spot Martha previously stood. His eyes held all manner of unspoken anger.
“George?” Mitchell asked, a hint of worry in her voice.
George turned to her, a mask of calmness slipping on his face as he did. He didn’t want to have her worried for any reason.
“Is everything good?” George asked.
“Yeah,” Mitchell nodded. “It’s all good.”
She was a bit surprised at the lengths George took to defend her. Outright protecting her in front of the whole firm was a really bold move of him to pull. He did all this without batting an eyelash. Mitchell’s heart skipped a bit at that thought.
“We should get going. We have somewhere to be, remember?” George said, adjusting his posture a little.
