Chapter 18
Mitchell sat in her office with an exasperated sigh. The walk from George’s office to hers was dreadful. Everyone kept looking at her as though she was a whore or some disgusting object. Some looked at her with discern and disdain, some with jealousy, some with envy, some with adoration, and a few others with pure hatred.
But unlike the previous time, she knew what she did to get those looks, and so she smiled at each and every one of them. Even if they looked like they would beat her up till she was unconscious, she still smiled at them.
A particular woman — Martha Peters — who kept seething as Mitchell passed by her almost made Mitchell laugh. She looked like a clown, a certified one at that. As a response to her seething, Mitchell smiled at her.
