Chapter 126
Serena POV
The gunfire outside grew louder. My heart pounded in my chest as I pressed my hands against the door. I could hear men shouting, boots slamming, and bullets cracking through walls. My whole body shook, but this time it wasn’t fear...it was hope.
“Myles,” I whispered, tears filling my eyes. “It’s him. It has to be him.”
I backed away from the door, clutching my chest. I could already picture him bursting in, gun in hand, fire in his eyes. He’d sweep me into his arms, and all of this would finally be over.
But then...
BOOM!
The back wall of the room exploded inward with a thunderous blast. The shockwave threw me off my feet. I slammed hard into the floor, the breath ripped from my lungs. Dust filled the air, choking me, and my ears rang so loud I couldn’t hear anything for a few seconds.
