The morning was still early, but the fire had already died down except for the smoke that tainted the fine atmosphere, making the songs of the birds who were singing freely in their nest almost seem like an eerie dirge for the lives lost the night before.
The Detective’s car finally pulled up at the scene where dozens of police officers were already inspecting the whole scene, with teams of forensic officers already at work. Detective Davies stepped out of the car and winced at the sight that met his eyes.
“Now I wish I hadn’t eaten yet.” He growled more to himself.
“Your nightmare is just starting.” Another officer who heard him replied from the side. “Good morning, Davies. Glad you came as soon as possible.”
They shook hands.
“What are we looking at? Winchester?” Davies asked.
“Prolly a cartel standoff,” Winchester replied. “Maybe a dispute over drugs and weapons or something like that.”
“Huh.”
