Chapter 88
Myles POV
The next morning, I woke up feeling lighter than I ever had in my whole life. It was strange because usually my mornings carried the weight of yesterday’s fights, yesterday’s anger, and yesterday’s regrets. But today it was different.
I opened my eyes, and the first thing I saw was Serena still sleeping beside me, her hair scattered across the pillow, her lips parted just a little as she breathed softly. A smile spread on my face without me even realizing it.
For years, I had woken up with knots in my stomach and thoughts of blood and violence crowding in before dawn. But today all I felt was peace.
I slid out of bed quietly, got into the shower, and started getting ready for work. Even while I shaved, even while I fixed my tie in the mirror, I couldn’t stop grinning. It almost felt strange, like my face wasn’t used to smiling this much.
