I stepped into the office building and immediately felt overwhelmed. It was bigger than the one I used to run—much bigger. Now I understood why people called it a multi-billion company, unlike my old million-dollar firm.

The receptionist’s face lifted into a professional smile—the kind that came with the job.

“Good morning, sir. How may I help you?”

“I’m here to see your boss,” I replied in an equally professional tone.

“Do you have an appointment, sir?”

Company rules. I understood them; I used to be the one enforcing them.

“Honestly? No. But I’m a potential business partner. I was in the vicinity and decided to stop by and meet the man I might be working with soon. You know how business goes.”
