Chapter 136. A Turnaround
He didn’t respond. He continued eating, silent and brooding.
“Are you ever going to release her?” I asked again.
Still nothing.
Zion had gone quiet too. He stopped eating, crawled into Jared’s lap, and settled there. He was sleepy, his little body sinking against Jared’s chest. Jared shifted him gently so he wouldn’t press too much weight on him as he ate.
Soon, Zion was asleep.
“You’re not saying anything, Jared. Are you ever going to release that girl?”
“Can we not talk about her, please?” he muttered, raising his head only long enough to throw me a tired glance before returning to his food.
“We have to talk about her. That girl needs to be let out. If you don’t, I’ll stop talking to you.” It wasn’t a bluff, and he knew it.
