My son had been so excited when I told him we were taking lunch to Jared at his office. Uncle Pete had gone in earlier, and for days now, I'd avoided Astra-Z completely. After losing Zaya, I simply wasn’t ready to face anything work-related.
I’d cooked for Jared that morning—he was still living with us for now, and none of us were complaining. I enjoyed his presence. Zion obviously did too. And Uncle Pete seemed relieved to have Jared close in such a difficult time.
Bringing him lunch was meant to be a surprise.
