Low growl. Low groan. Kara whispered something into Jim’s ear. He couldn’t make out what. But he could sense the panic in his eyes. He became angrier. The four of them moved out of the room slowly. He was left alone again, like driftwood behind the tide. When he looked in the direction where Jenkins was lying on the armchair, he wasn’t there. Where did they take him to?
He tried to move his feet. But they were glued to the spot where they were chained. Although he was scared, he did not panic but kept lying, staring. He could hear Anya’s screams in his heart. The images grew simpler and clearer. Anya crawled out of the frame of the burning fire, and her body glowed with dark intensity. He could feel the muscles around his mouth contracting. He knew he was crying, and his eyes were dull.
