It took more than a year for her to truly understand what had happened to her, what she’d become, that it wasn’t a nightmare or a hallucination, and that it would never end, that there was no cure, that she would forever remain that.
It was assumed that if a girl or a woman in her early twenties was bitten by a werewolf, she would die, if not from the bite, then surely of the shock. They were believed to have weaker antibodies that could accommodate the venom induced by the bite. But it was also believed that any human, be it man or woman, boy or girl, bitten by a werewolf, was a werewolf immediately, although having a wee chance of survival. Usually, it was one out of a thousand unfortunate victims that got to survive.
