Chapter 71
When she woke up the next morning, she was lying alone in the dew-damp grass. She scrambled up and looked around for Alex. The last thing she remembered was that they’d changed back to humans, curled up, and gone to sleep. She put out her hand and touched the dry spot beside her where he had been. As she glanced around the empty clearing, a sliver of anxiety ran through her. Alex did not take off on her like that. As she was looking, a sprinkle of cold water hit her head. She jumped to see Alex standing over her, grinning. Water dripped from his hands and glistened from his forearms. He was still naked; they had not bothered putting on their clothes the night before, not quite sure they would be in any condition to be worn.
“Looking for me?” He asked, dropping down beside her.
“I thought the vampires rumored to be in the town might have gotten you.” She joked.
“Really?” He poked at her nose playfully.
