Chapter 71

After a few more minutes of her ranting about redeeming herself, she finally brought me some food to eat. The food tastes almost like my mom's cooking. Maybe that was one of the many reasons I was drawn to her, she reminded me of my past and my home.

“The food is great, by the way,” I said after I took my last bite. She made rice and cabbage soup. Not a lot of people made that, but my mom was one of the few that did. 

“Thank you, Lara.” She replied, and then gulped down a glass of water. “And thank you so much for giving me a chance. No one has done that for me since I came from prison. Even my aunt is sometimes afraid of me.” Her voice broke, and I let off a sigh.

“It’s okay, Julia. For some reason I trust you. I just hope you don’t let me down.” 

“I won’t.” She smiled and then ran her hand through her hair.
