Chapter 123
Layla’s POV
The cab pulled up in front of a tall skyscraper. It was on the other side of the road, so I had to cross to the other side after paying the cab driver.
I passed the security at the front and stepped through the revolving door. The place was beautiful and brightly lit. On the first floor, there were only a few people walking around, the offices not in sight. I get that it was past working hours, and many of the workers were probably at their houses right now. I prayed within myself that Beverly was still lurking around somewhere here.
I approached the woman seated behind the desk and threw her a polite smile. She was dressed in a fluffy pink suit blazer, her brown hair pulled back in a long, straight ponytail, and her makeup seemed to have been retouched just before I walked in.
“Hello,” I said to her.
“Hi. How may I help you?” she asks as she draws her handbag near and starts tossing some papers into it. I guess she was also
