Layla’s POV

I got a new cellphone from the first store the cab stopped at. Then I also bought a new sim before heading back immediately. After connecting the phone to its charger, I dialed Beverly’s number.

It rang for a while before she picked up and spoke first, “This is Beverly.”

Taking in a deep break, I spoke into the phone, “Hey, Beverly, it is Layla.”

“Oh my God, Layla. Hello, how are you?”
