Layla’s POV

What if Logan didn’t read it? What if he ignored it like my calls?

My heart ached as I thought back to the last time we spoke. The anger in his voice. The frustration in his eyes. He hadn’t answered a single call from me since then. And now, his number wasn’t even connecting.

I stared at the phone, willing it to light up with a response. But the screen stayed dark.

I sighed, tossing the phone onto the bed. My thoughts drifted back to the shadowy figure. My chest tightened with fear. Who was he? Why was he here?

I looked toward the door, my mind racing. Logan’s men had always promised me that Logan was fine, but now I wasn’t so sure. And if Logan wasn’t here, who was going to protect me?

My hands clenched into fists. I can’t just sit here and do nothing.

An idea struck me. I reached for my phone again, this time scroll
