She looked up, her gaze cold and unwavering. “What do you want?”

I ignored her icy tone, moving closer until I stood a few feet away.

“I came to check on you,” I said simply, leaning against the doorframe. “Are you comfortable?”

Layla let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. “Comfortable? You’re really asking me that?” Her voice was laced with sarcasm, but there was a sadness beneath it that even she couldn’t hide.
