Maddy’s POV
She was gone. The spot where she’d been standing just moments ago was empty, as if she’d vanished into thin air.
Jason and I exchanged a panicked glance, the same thought running through both our minds: How did this happen?
“She was right here,” I said, my voice trembling.
“I know,” Jason replied, his eyes scanning the shop frantically. “She couldn’t have gone far.”
But even as he said it, I felt a sinking feeling in my chest. Layla wasn’t the type to wander off without saying something. If she wasn’t here, it meant she’d left.
And if she’d left…
Jason must have been thinking the same thing, because his expression darkened. “Maddy,” he said, his voice low and serious. “We need to find her. Now.”
