I wanted to be the one who could give her peace, who could make her feel safe and loved, but how could I when that bastard was always there, lurking in the background, like a ghost from her past that wouldn’t stay buried?
I ran a hand through my hair, the frustration mounting. I couldn’t shake the image of Logan, standing there with that kid…his son, or whatever the hell he was. I didn’t know why it bothered me so much.
Maybe it was the way he just looked at Layla, like he was still entitled to her, still had a place in her life. It was like he was claiming her all over again, and I couldn’t stand it. I couldn’t stand him.
