Whatever this was about, I’d deal with it. I had to. For Layla, for Gerald, for the life I was trying to build.
But as I sat there, the silence of the room closing in around me, one thought kept repeating in my mind: Prepare yourself.
I wasn’t sure if I was ready. But I would find out soon enough.
I sat there, the glass now empty in my hand, staring into the deep amber liquid as if it could provide the answers I desperately needed.
My mind was a tangled mess of possibilities, each more unsettling than the last. Prepare yourself. Mr. Paul’s words echoed in my mind, gnawing at me like a persistent itch I couldn’t scratch.
I stood abruptly, setting the glass down with a clink. My hands were shaking, not from the alcohol, but from the uncertainty.
I needed to focus. I needed to think clearly. But everything felt like it was slipping out of my control.
