Caroline’s POV

“And are you truly ready for that?” he asked, leaning forward. “Raising a child isn’t just about love, Caroline. It’s about stability, consistency, and sacrifice. Are you ready to give him all of that?”

“Yes,” I said without hesitation. “I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve learned from them. I’ve done everything I can to prepare for this. Please, just give me the chance to prove it.”

He was silent for a long moment, his gaze piercing. Finally, he nodded.

“All right,” he said. “I’ll bring him to you tomorrow. But know this, Caroline…if you ever falter, if you ever put him in a position where he’s not safe, I won’t hesitate to step in again.”

“Thank you,” I said, my voice breaking. “Thank you for everything.”

As I left the house, my heart felt lighter than it had in months. Tomorrow, my son will be home. Tomorrow, we could start over. And this time, I wouldn’t let anything stand in our way.
