Dani’s POV

The thought of being alone again, with nothing but my own thoughts and the memories of the past week, was almost too much to bear.

“Marilyn,” I said, stopping her in her tracks.

She turned, her eyebrows raised in question.

“Would you… would you mind visiting me again? I mean, just to check in or something. It’s been a rough time, and I could use someone to talk to.”

Her expression softened, and she nodded. “Of course. I’ll stop by in a few days, see how you’re doing.”

Relief washed over me, though I tried not to let it show. “Thanks. That means a lot.”

She gave me one last smile before stepping out onto the porch. “Take care of yourself, Dani. And remember, you’re stronger than you think.”

I watched her walk to her car, her words echoing in my mind. As she drove away, the silence of the house enveloped me once more.

I stood there for a moment, staring at the closed door, the weight of everything crashi
