Layla’s POV
The phone vibrated again, snapping me out of my thoughts. I took a deep breath, willing myself to calm down.
It’s just a phone call, Layla. Stop acting like a schoolgirl with a crush.
I swallowed hard and answered, trying to keep my voice steady. “Hello?”
“Hey,” his voice was smooth, casual, and somehow… warm. “Did I catch you at a bad time?”
I quickly sat up, my back pressing against the headboard as I tried to sound normal. “N-No. I was just… lying down.”
“Ah, perfect timing then,” Logan said, and I could practically hear the smile in his voice. “I figured since you ran off earlier, I should check to see if you’re still alive.”
I felt my face heat up, remembering how I had bolted from him in the hospital. “I… I didn’t run off,” I lied, hating how flustered I sounded. “I just… had to go somewhere.”
He laughed softly. “Sure. And here I thought you were avoiding me.”
