Chapter 133

Maxine’s POV

We gave Dennis’ written instructions to him. The air hummed with energy as the artifact began to glow. Minutes passed as Alaric continued his work, each of us surrounding the artifact in a circle.

"Hold hands," Alaric said but it didn't sound like him anymore. We linked hands.

A few moments later,, the artifact began to crack.

"It's working," I whispered.

Liam nodded, his eyes never leaving the artifact. "Stay vigilant," he cautioned.

It happened so fast. As the cracks widened, the artifact emitted a light and finally it exploded in a bright light. The light hit me square in the chest, knocking the air out of my lungs and sending me flying away.

"Maxine!"

Liam's POV

I watched as the artifact exploded in a burst of bright light and hit Maxine, striking her in the chest. It was too quick and she didn't even have the time to react or scream. It hit her, sending her flying a fe
