Chapter 143

Maxine’s POV

The first thing I heard was childlike laughter. It was coming from the kitchen. The Luna Queen smiled and led the way. As we got closer, I began to make out the voices.

"How many eggs? One or two?" A woman asked.

"Two!" A child replied. "Crack, crack."

We walked into the kitchen and saw them by the counter. They were mixing something into a big bowl. The child, her blond hair in two pig tails, beamed when she was us.

She hopped down from her stool and barreled right into the Queen. "Luna!" She shrieked.

"My baby," she cooed in response. She dug into her purse and brought out some chocolates. The little girl squealed and accepted them with thanks.

The other woman smiled, putting her hand on her waist and offering a smile. "You came yourself."

"Who would pass on the opportunity to see Cinder?" She asked as the little girl left her and went back to the woman I assumed was Cinder.

"Good evening, ma'am."
