Chapter 60

Maxine’s POV

I was lost in thought, thinking about how the moonlit festival had brought us closer, healed old wounds, and generated new friendships.

How I wished this was the beginning of a new chapter—a chapter filled with hope, love, and the promise of a brighter future. 

Just then, I noticed Tobias was also lost but his own was different. He was staring in a particular direction, I followed his gaze and it landed on a fair girl who might be about my age. 

She came with her family for the festival. While I was trying to process why he was seriously gazing at the girl, he mumbled, almost as if he was in a trance:

“M-Mate.”

The word hit me like a thunderbolt. Mate. Tobias had found his mate. I opened my mouth to ask him about it, but before I could say anything, he was already moving toward her. I watched in stunned silence as he approached the girl, his face lighting up with a joy I hadn’t seen before.

Tobias and
