Maxine’s POV
Later, as the festivities wound down, I found a quiet spot to reflect. The night sky was clear, the full moon shining brightly. I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of peace wash over me. Maybe I hadn’t shifted, but I had experienced something just as powerful—a connection with others and a moment of pure joy.
“Maxine, are you okay?” Tobias’s voice broke through my thoughts.
I turned to him, smiling. “I’m better than okay, Tobias. I’m happy and doing okay.”
He nodded, understanding in his eyes. “You deserve to be happy. After everything, you deserve to be comfortable.”
I looked back at the crowd, my heart was full. “We all do, Tobias. We all do.”
As the night came to an end, I knew I would carry the memories of this celebration with me always. It was my first time singing in a crowd like this. I hope it brings me an unexpected blessing.
