Maxine’s POV

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I grew up with my grandparents and I just sort of learned how to talk like this."

I nodded thoughtfully. We were already getting to my apartment building.

"I can handle it from here," I said to him, smiling.

He looks up at the building a bit doubtfully. "Are you sure? I'm guessing you're going to climb a lot of steps." He said.

I had just met this guy today. I couldn't possibly show him where I lived. Still, I insisted on taking my back from him.

"Maybe I can just help you up at least half of them." He offered. "I would feel terrible if I just left you like this."

I hesitated, pulling my lips into a thin line. "Okay, fine but only up to the second floor then you give them to me and we say goodbye," I said.

He smiled, charming. "Okay, deal." He said to me as we entered the apartment building together.

There were a few people in the common room and they said hi and waved at me, a
