Chapter 79

Maxine’s POV

I saw Nick on my way back from work. I wanted to wave at him and call his name but I saw the way his back was rigid.

The closer I got, the more I realized that he was talking to someone. And it looked like it was serious.

I walked towards the both of them. As I approached, I saw the other person start to walk away but Nick grabbed her hand and stopped her.

That was when I fully saw her. She had pale white skin and long straight black hair. As I reached them, I wondered if this was a lover's quarrel and whether I should interrupt or not.

"Give me some time, Ariel." I heard Nick say as I got closer. "You don't just expect me to just do what you asked. I barely just got here." He said to her in angry and hushed tones.

It made me very suspicious and on guard. I had never heard Nick talk like that before. He was usually friendly and had a light tone whenever he spoke. Whoever this person was, she was setting Nick on edge.<
