Chapter 94. Patching Things
"Keratin, wait!" Germaine rushed after him. She was no match for his large strides and had to jog in order to catch up with him.
She did, and for a while, he walked on, not saying a word, but slowed down when they had gotten some distance away from the camp. She looked around nervously. At this time of night, she did not like to venture far from the camp, yet here she was. She sidled closer to him, and put an arm on his hand to get his attention. "Please, say something."
He sighed and stopped walking before turning to her. "What is there to say?"
"Scold me, tell me you can't stand the sight of me, yell at me. Say anything, but this silence of yours. It's killing me, Keratin."
She felt a tightness in her chest that wasn't there before he walked away from her. She could almost believe it was the mate bond. She had never felt anything like it before. It was like a constricting band that didn't allow her to breathe.
